Largo Exercise for Back Pain Relief: Whats Best? Good Question!

September 14, 2022

An age-old chiropractic patient question: ”Just tell me what exercise to do to get rid of this back pain, and I’ll do it!”

We all want the one “correct” answer to make things better. We like to “just do it” and be finished. Knowing just what the right thing is is the conundrum even for researchers and for your Largo chiropractor. The secret for all involved – researcher, doctor, patient – is understanding the patient. Hollstrom & Associates Inc gets to know each of our back pain patients to know better which exercise(s) may be most beneficial. Our chiropractic services are here to help.

WHAT TO DO?

Researchers struggle to know what the right back pain easing exercise(s) is, too. A few researchers analyzed 118 back pain exercise trials with 9710 volunteers. They discovered that the most effective exercise types for getting rid of pain were mind-body, core-based exercise, and Pilates. They stated that the most effective means to reduce disability were Pilates, core-based, and strength exercises. According to a special scoring system know as SUCRA which measures the rates the probability of an approach’s being effective found that Pilates ranked highest with 93% for likeliness of decreasing pain and 98% for decreasing disability. (1) Hollstrom & Associates Inc will agree that those are impressive effectiveness scores!

BUT WHAT ABOUT…?

Other studies highlight the effectiveness of other exercises, too. An analysis of 89 studies/5578 patients dedicated to determining the effectiveness of exercise for non-specific chronic low back pain explained that Pilates had the highest probability of easing pain, resistance training and stabilization/motor control exercise for improving physical function, and resistance and aerobic training for improving mental health. (2) Pilates won again! Then, in a 414 chronic low back pain patient study, core stability exercise decreased pain more and enhanced function better than general exercise. (3) And for back pain sufferers with a lumbar disc herniation, stretch and strength-based yoga showed itself to be a likely option to improve associated neuropathic pain, disability, and function in these patients by increasing mobilization, core muscle strength, and hamstring flexibility. (4) Hollstrom & Associates Inc does not want to puzzle you or lead you off track! We’ll just encourage you to try a few of our recommendations and see how good they help you.
